A rare and highly desirable type of Toruń thaler of Władysław IV Vasa. The Toruń issues are among the most prized and sought-after civic thalers of the 17th century.
This variety features the obverse legend ending in PRV, and the reverse initials M-S, referring to Melchior Schirmer, mintmaster of the Toruń mint between 1639 and 1642.
Example with mint luster on the reverse, obverse slightly worn but still with hints of mint freshness.
An outstanding opportunity for advanced collectors of Wladyslaw IV Vasa.
Obverse: half-figure of the king in armor with a lace collar, holding the royal orb in the left hand and a sword pointing upwards in the right, legend: VLADIS IIII D G REX POL ET SVEC M D LIT RVS PRV.
Reverse: angel holding an oval cartouche with the coat of arms of Toruń, flanked by the date 16–40, initials M-S below, legend: MONETA NOVA ARGENTEA CIVITATIS THORVNENSIS.
