One of the earliest and exceptionally rare Polish coins, minted during the reign of Boleslaus I the Brave. It belongs to the group of lighter denarii of this ruler, and its issue is dated to around 1015.
This type of denarius was described, among others, by Dr. hab. Mateusz Bogucki in Wiadomości Numizmatyczne, issue 2 of 2006. At the time of publication, only 16 specimens were known to the author, the vast majority of which were in museum and institutional collections.
The obverse of the coin refers stylistically to the denarii of Otto III and Empress Adelaide (983–1002), which is evidence of Western European influences on Polish coinage at that time.
