Rare medal commemorating the capture of Varna by Russian troops in 1828 during the Russo-Turkish War (1828-1829).
The Siege of Varna was a joint operation of the Russian Army and the Black Sea Fleet aimed at besieging and capturing the strong fortress of Varna during the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829. During the siege, the Ottoman army initiated unblocking operations with the forces of Omer Vrioni Pasha's 25,000-strong corps, which were not successful. On September 29, 1828, the Varna garrison capitulated.
