Extremely rare variety of the 1763 Thorn three-groschen coin, with the initials S-B of Szymon Brückman – director of the Thorn mint – placed on both sides of the city’s coat of arms.
This is the only year of issue for Toruń three-groschen coins under Augustus III of Poland, classified in Iger’s catalogue with the highest rarity rating of R6, confirming its exceptional status. The variety is known from the collections of Count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski (no. 2988) and Jan Stupnicki, while in auction records it has appeared only twice.
The present piece stands out with its distinguished provenance – it comes from the Potocki Collection, bearing a proprietary countermark on the obverse, placed next to the royal monogram.
Its outstanding preservation is confirmed by the highest and only top grade in the NGC census. Sharp details and an intense original mint luster further emphasize its uniqueness.
