Impressive Taler struck at the Clausthal mint in 1652, during the reign of Duke Christian Ludwig of the House of Welf.
Obverse features the detailed coat of arms of Brunswick-Lüneburg, surmounted by a crown and elaborate mantling, with surrounding legend naming the ruler. Reverse depicts a horse facing right within a laurel wreath, accompanied by the date 1652 – a regional symbol strongly associated with Lower Saxony.
Coins of this type, produced in the mining town of Clausthal, stand out for their fine artistry and represent an important piece of early modern German numismatics.
