An impressive prize medal struck for the National Crafts Fair, held from 28 April to 5 May 1935 as part of the Poznań International Fair.
The event was the first major independent showcase of Polish craftsmanship on such a scale. Participating workshops represented dozens of trades and specialities, presenting both traditional handicrafts and modern production methods. The event was organised by the Association of Chambers of Crafts of the Republic of Poland, which represented the interests of the country’s artisan community at the national level.
The fair promoted Polish manufacturing, encouraged the exchange of expertise and facilitated new commercial contacts. The finest exhibitors and participants were honoured with medals recognising the high quality of their workmanship and products. The reverse inscription, ZA CHLUBNE WYNIKI PRACY (“For Commendable Achievements in Work”), clearly confirms the prize character of this medal.
An attractive example with well-preserved gilding, sharply defined relief and fully legible inscriptions.
An interesting prize medal documenting the development and promotion of Polish craftsmanship during the Second Polish Republic and its presence at the most important trade fair in interwar Poland.
