Rarer year.
Variety with the initials IGS of Johann Georg Schomburg, mint master of the Dresden Mint in the years 1716–1734.
Only three auction appearances recorded on OneBid, two of which occurred between 2015 and 2019.
A thaler whose appearance will be appreciated by collectors fond of dark, age-old patinas.
The relief is nicely brought out; the fields remain distinctly lustrous despite the dark patina. The reverse shows mirror-like elements that harmonize beautifully with the colorful highlights of the old patina.
An aesthetically attractive coin, pleasing in its appearance, especially when viewed in hand.
Obverse: bust of the ruler facing right
DG FRID AUGUST REX POL DUX SAX ICMA & W
Reverse: two crowned, multi-field coats of arms, between them the initials IGS of the mintmaster Johann Georg Schomburg and a hook, the mark of the Dresden mint
