The first version of the Naval Medal made in Great Britain in 1946.
The decoration was established by decree of the President of the Republic of Poland on 3 July 1945. It could be awarded to a sailor who took part in warfare on Allied ships for a period of 6 months, or on ships not constantly in combat conditions for a period of 1 year.
A total of 1,150 medals were awarded.
