A very rare set of decorations with award certificates belonging to Vice Admiral of the Volksmarine, Hans Hofmann. The rarest and most remarkable decoration in this set is the complete award set of the Scharnhorst Order.
The Scharnhorst Order was a high military decoration awarded in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) between 1966 and 1990.

Medal for Merit in the Struggle for the People and Fatherland, 3rd Class (Bronze) with certificate, case, and ribbon bar. Awarded on October 7, 1974.

Medal “30 Years of the National People’s Army” with certificate, case, and ribbon bar. Awarded on March 1, 1986.

Medal “40th Anniversary of the German Democratic Republic” with certificate, case, and ribbon bar. Awarded on October 7, 1989.

Biographical note:
On March 1, 1986, he was promoted to Vice Admiral. On January 1, 1990, he succeeded General Manfred Grätz as Deputy Minister of National Defense (MfNV) and Head of Rear Services. On April 18, 1990, he became Chief of Security at the Ministry of National Defense (MfAV). He was dismissed on September 30, 1990, shortly before the reunification of Germany.
