Commemorative issue minted at the Dresden mint in 1827 to mark the death of Friedrich Augustus I, the first King of Saxony (1806–1827), affectionately known as “King Fritz,” who enjoyed great popularity among his subjects.
The reverse inscription records the date of his passing along with a biblical verse, giving the coin a distinctly memorial character.
