Four Groschen coin (4 Grosze) struck in 1791 at the Warsaw Mint under King Stanisław August Poniatowski. The obverse shows the king’s bust facing right with the legend STANISLAUS AUG. D.G. REX POL. M.D.L.. The reverse features a crowned shield with the Polish Eagle, the Lithuanian Pahonia, and the Ciołek coat of arms. Below the shield are the initials E.B., standing for mintmaster Efraim Brenn, along with the denomination 4 GR. Around the edge, the date 1791 and the inscription COLON. 83 ⅓ EX MARCA PURA.
Although 1791 is one of the more available dates in this series, examples in such an outstanding state of preservation are rarely encountered.
Graded by NGC as MS64 – a carefully selected specimen with sharp detail, full mint bloom and luster across the fields. Natural surfaces and a bright appearance enhance the relief. The highest grade recorded in the NGC census for this type.
An attractive, high-grade coin from the final years of Stanisław August’s reign.
