Set of five unique collector’s coins with a face value of 1,000 CFA francs, issued in 2024 by the Republic of Cameroon, dedicated to the work of Zdzisław Beksiński (1929–2005) – one of the most outstanding Polish painters, photographers, and graphic artists of the 20th century.
Beksiński became famous for his visionary and hauntingly surreal style, combining technical mastery with an imagination steeped in themes of death, decay, and grotesque transformation. His works – especially from the “fantastic period” of the 1970s and 1980s – depict apocalyptic landscapes, monumental ruins, and deformed figures, creating dreamlike worlds where beauty and horror intertwine inseparably.
This set represents a remarkable fusion of numismatics and fine art. Each coin features a color reproduction of one of Beksiński’s paintings, framed within a square composition enhanced with engraved decorative elements. Advanced printing and high-relief minting techniques capture the distinctive atmosphere and texture of the artist’s work with striking precision.
The entire collection is presented in an elegant, luxury case, emphasizing the prestige of the issue. This limited edition is aimed at admirers of contemporary art and collectors seeking truly unique numismatic items that honor the legacy of great modern artists.
