Taler struck at the Hall mint in Tyrol in 1620 during the reign of Archduke Leopold V of Habsburg, brother of Emperor Ferdinand II.
He was one of the key rulers of the Habsburg dominions in Tyrol and Inner Austria.
This issue falls within the turbulent early years of the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648), which shook Central Europe. Leopold V’s coinage emphasized the majesty and prestige of the Habsburg dynasty and the importance of the Hall mint as the leading taler production center in the region.
