Specimen issue of the 50 Latu banknote from 1934, printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. The obverse features a finely engraved portrait of Kārlis Ulmanis, Prime Minister and later President of Latvia, placed at right. Rich multicolour guilloches and geometric ornaments dominate the centre, with denomination PIECDESMIT LATU boldly presented. The note carries specimen characteristics: zero serial numbers, perforated inscription “PARAUGS” (meaning “Specimen”) and distinct control features.
Graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated, it retains fresh paper quality, strong colours and crisp details. Minor handling alone prevents a higher grade, yet this remains an outstanding and scarce Latvian specimen note of the interwar period.
A desirable pre-WWII Latvian banknote, rare as a specimen and beautifully preserved.
