Silver patagon struck at the Bruges mint in 1665 under Philip IV of Habsburg. A typical issue of the Spanish Netherlands coinage of the mid-17th century, featuring the crowned Burgundian cross on the obverse and the Spanish coat of arms on the reverse – strong symbols of Habsburg sovereignty.
These coins were widely used in European trade and played a key role in the monetary system of the Spanish Netherlands.
