Issue belongs to the classic series of Prussian talers, which formed the backbone of the monetary system of Silesia after its annexation by Prussia in 1742. Such issues, struck in Breslau and other Silesian mints, not only served as important trade coinage but also acted as symbols of the military strength and authority of the Prussian state.
