A very rare issue, struck for the members of the Masonic lodge established by French officers and officials stationed in Madrid. The French Masonic lodge in Madrid was active only for a few years, between 1807 and 1813.
Labouret, in his study, lists only a few examples struck in copper and gold, without recording any emission in silver. The present medal is practically absent from the auction market.
Medal with suspension loop, removed from a mounting.
An exceptional opportunity to enrich a collection with an extremely rare Napoleonic-era Masonic medal – silver examples belong to the absolute world-class rarities.
Obverse: laureate bust right, surrounded by legend MEMB. DE LA R. DE NAPOLEON. LE GRAND A L’OR. DE MADRID, below signature AN 5811.
Reverse: Masonic scene – handshake above burning hearts on an altar, surrounded by Masonic symbols (compass, square, hammer), at the top a radiant star with letter “G”, legend L’UNION. L’UTILITE. LA FORCE.
