NGC slab coin graded SHIPWRECK EFFECT, from the sunken wreck of the Sao Jose.
The galleon Sao Jose, sailed to India and sank off the coast of present-day Mozambique in 1622, as a result of an attack by the combined British and Dutch fleets. On board was a cargo of silver coins and the newly appointed Viceroy of India, Francisco da Gama, great-grandson of the famous Vasco da Gama.
The wreck rested on the bottom for almost 400 years until it was discovered in 2005 by treasure hunters. 24.000 silver coins and other items were found at that time.
