Thaler struck at the Salzburg mint in 1644 under Archbishop Paris von Lodron (1619–1653). Renowned as a skilled diplomat, Paris von Lodron maintained the principality’s neutrality during the Thirty Years’ War, transforming Salzburg into a safe haven and a flourishing center of culture and art. His coinage, featuring the Madonna and Saint Rupert, is among the most admired episcopal issues of the 17th century.
Attractive coin that exhibits plenty of mint luster.
