Thaler struck in 1694 under Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun und Hohenstein (1667–1709).
His coinage combines rich religious symbolism with the heraldry of the Salzburg prince-archbishopric. The Madonna and Child on the obverse, together with the invocation Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, reflect the strong Marian devotion of the era, while the reverse depicts Saint Rupert, the patron saint of Salzburg, with his attributes of salt and staff.
