A highly impressive Specimen issue of the 5000 Lei banknote from 1931, printed by the British American Banknote Company. The obverse depicts King Carol II in full uniform at right, with the national coat of arms above and a scenic Danube landscape with river and cliffs at left. The word SPECIMEN is boldly overprinted in red diagonally across the note and perforated at the bottom.
Graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated, this piece retains its original colours, crisp printing and strong detail, with only the most minor handling preventing a higher grade. Specimen notes of this type were produced in very limited numbers for archival and presentation purposes, making them significantly scarcer than regular issues.
An outstanding large-format note, combining artistic design, historical significance, and rarity in preservation.
