Very rare medal minted to commemorate the agreement between King Henry III of France and the mercenary troops.

Reverse of this medal refers to an agreement concluded by Henry III of France with the Swiss and other mercenaries in France in December 1587. The former were to receive money and other benefits for their services (liberalitas = generosity), while the latter had to lay down their weapons and swear allegiance to Henry III of France (fides = loyalty).

Specimen of extraordinary beauty and rarely seen in such an excellent state of preservation.

Choice uncirculated. Graded MS64 by NGC.

A true Top Pop. The only coin with the highest grade in NGC population report.

Medal that very rarely appears on the world auction market in original struck and in the presented state of preservation it is the most beautiful specimen that has ever appeared in trade.


Obverse: bust of the king facing right, in armor with a ruff ornament and a laurel wreath on his head

HENRICVS•III•D•G•FRANCORVM•ET•POL•REX (Henry III, by the grace of God King of the French and Poland).

Reverse: two scenes presented in a vertical mirror image, the first showing two hands emerging from the clouds, the left one pouring flowers and fruit, and the right one pouring money from a purse from which coins are pouring down on the soldiers gathered below, on the sides the inscription HÆC – MVLTIS (For Many), above the hands the sun emerges from the clouds, on the sides the letters L – R (Liberalitas Regia - Royal Generosity), the second scene showing on the left side the army leaving the castle led by a dog, in the middle knights with a banner in front of a group of mounted knights, above them two hands emerging from the clouds in a handshake, at the top the sun appears hidden behind the clouds, on the sides the letters F – H (Fides Henrici - Henry's Good Faith), on the sides the inscription HÆC – CVNCTIS (For All)
