Very rare coronation medal struck to commemorate the enthronement of Stanisław August Poniatowski, the last King of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Designed by Jan Filip Holzhaeusser, court medalist of the king, and signed with the initials I.H.N. beneath the ruler’s bust.
The coronation took place on 25 November 1764 in Warsaw, at St. John’s Collegiate Church, following his unanimous election as king on 7 September 1764. The medal was intended both to commemorate the event and to symbolize the idea of power founded upon virtue and divine providence.
