Ducat of the Dutch province of Overijssel, Hungarian-style, reminiscent of the contemporary Hungarian ducats of Emperor Rudolf II (1576-1608).
Undated issue from 1591.
This coin belongs to the widespread group of Dutch ducats modeled after the Hungarian type, particularly those struck in Kremnica under Emperor Rudolf II (1576–1608). The imitation aimed to guarantee trust and wide acceptance in international trade, as Hungarian ducats had become the dominant trade coin in Central and Eastern Europe.
The Overijssel issues were primarily struck as trade coins, highly valued for their reliable gold content and easily recognizable imagery.
