Very rare Majnert forgery of a fantasy Crown Taler of Sigismund I the Old.
The coin was created by enlarging the dies of an extremely rare Kraków six-groschen piece, effectively producing a faithful taler-sized copy. The dies were hand-engraved, and the overall execution is of remarkable precision. As noted by Henryk Mańkowski in Fałszywe monety polskie (False Polish Coins), the specimen known to Beyer had die cracks on the obverse and across the reverse, while Mańkowski’s example – just like the present one – showed no such defects.
Well preserved and sharply struck, with shimmering fields. A high-class Majnert forgery, offering great historical and numismatic value.
An outstanding rarity that is certain to attract the attention of researchers and collectors of Sigismund I coinage.
