Variety with a portrait of the king in a crown, in armour with a lion's head shoulder board and the Order of the Holy Spirit on his chest. Struck at the Gdańsk Mint under the management of Christian and David Schirmer, with dies from 1683, made by Höhn, an outstanding Gdańsk medallist.
An interesting fact about these ducats is the date on which the last digit 8 was clearly stamped onto the digit 3.
The ducat from 1688 is one of the few gold coins from Gdańsk minted without mint marks.
