A rare medal struck to commemorate the establishment of the Order of the White Eagle by King Augustus II the Strong.
The obverse features the bust of the monarch with the surrounding legend D. G. AVGVSTVS II REX POLON. ELECT. SAXON., and the engraver’s signature GROSKURT below. The reverse shows a richly decorated throne with the full insignia of the order, topped with a crown and two eagles, with the legend RESTAURATOR ORDINIS AQVILAE ALBAE.
The medal, by Heinrich Paul Groskurt, was struck after 1713 (most likely 1718–1719), when the final form of the order’s insignia was established.
An example of very fine appearance, with a beautifully rendered royal portrait and abundant natural luster in the fields.
An attractive and important piece among Polish order-related medals.
