Reference: Miłczak A42

The highest rarity vintage ruble silver with a combination of signatures that has not been listed at auction before!

Variety of the first issue printed in green, signatures of the president and director of the bank: Jozef Tymowski and Maciej Wenzl.

Collecting silver rubles for vintages, we can quickly see that only the first 1847 vintage can be classified as relatively available, the other green ones are among the undisputed rarities in any state of preservation.

The 1854 vintage on offer is a rarity even against the background of the entire silver ruble issue, known raptly from three listings on the Onebid platform, two of which are the same piece. This will be the rapt third listing in the last 30 years!

It should be noted that the two pieces listed so far are banknotes from the largest collection of Polish banknotes - the Lucow Collection. Both pieces of this vintage have a different combination of signatures than the one offered.

Thus, the auction of the offered piece will be the first listing of the 1854 vintage with Tymowski & Wenzl signatures and at the same time the first outside the Lucow Collection. All known pieces so far are banknotes from the Lucow Collection with Tymowski & Englert signatures.

Beautiful, even unprecedented state of preservation for a silver ruble. Despite visible traces of circulation and fractures in the field, the paper still retains stiffness. Print colors are uniformly well colored, only locally lightened. Viewing the banknote carefully in parallel light, we can see a punctual enhancement on the line of the horizontal fracture, which allows us to conclude that the banknote has been skillfully enhanced and cleaned, but without significantly affecting the overall perception and without glaring corrections.

The exceptionally attractive appearance is the result of a very good technical state of preservation. No losses or tears, with only a spotty clearance at the horizontal break line. Edges smooth and unfrayed, without secondary cuts.

An outstanding banknote. A very rare vintage, a hitherto unrecorded combination of signatures and an excellent for a silver ruble state of preservation allow us to single out this bill as the star of the paper session without a second thought.

Undoubtedly the best preserved piece of the 1854 vintage recorded to date and the only one from outside the Lucow Collection.

In1841, the Russian monetary system was introduced. A tsarist decree mandated the introduction of a new bilingual currency in the Kingdom - the silver ruble, which also makes these banknotes desirable to collectors beyond our eastern border. The entire issue included four denominations, the lowest of which the silver ruble was issued in twelve vintages. Despite the fact that as many as eight of them were printed on light green subprint, it is these vintages, except for the first 1847, that are among the distinct rarities. Among them, we can distinguish vintages into very rare and extremely rare. The 1854 vintage is among the extremely rare ones. It is worth mentioning that light green silver rubles were in circulation until 1861, so the older the vintage, the shorter it was in circulation. Their exchange was also truncated until 1866, where the more accessible light orange rubles were exchanged at bank counters until 1875. The shorter period of circulation, as well as exchange, explains not only the extreme rarity of "green" silver rubles, but also the difficulty of obtaining pieces in collector-attractive states of preservation. The offered piece is an exception, with no ragged edges, few fractures and only very discreet corrections that do not disturb the naturalness of the reception.
