Very interesting and extremely rare imitation of the posthumous thaler of Philip II.
After consulting with Mr. Wojciech Gibczyński an expert on Pomeranian coins we were unable to determine what the point of creating such an imitation was. Mr. Wojciech excluded the Koszalin and Darłowo mints because they did not have the facilities to mint such a thaler at that time. Perhaps it was the act of an ordinary mintmaster as suggested by errors on the reverse. Mr. Wojciech also emphasized that all official issues of high denominations of Philip II were carefully minted but this is not the case with the presented coin.
